The Tokyo Bay has supported the capital of Japan from the times when Tokyo was known as Edo 400 years ago. The intensive use of Tokyo Bay was particularly accelerated during the high growth era after World War ?.
This issue will introduce the large development projects that are currently being carried out along the waterfront of the Tokyo Bay to ensure that Tokyo will continue to maintain its position as a leading world city in the future. Unused, and formerly unproductive land, as well as reclaimed land in the Tokyo waterfront area are currently being transformed info high value areas with the construction of business office buildings, housing and amusement parks.
The treatment of waste is looming as a major issue for most urban areas in Japan. We will also focus on the role the Tokyo Bay is playing as a major reservoir for waste disposal.
